Three Aston Martin Models with Ties to James Bond Raise £3.5 million for Charity
Three Aston Martin Models, including a DB5 Replica used in the filming of No Time to die, have raised over £3.5 million ($5.5 million) at a charity auction run by Christie’s in London to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the film franchise.
This specially prepared car that features gadgets such as retractable headlamps, pop-out machine guns, a rotating license plate, and a bomb firing mechanism was donated by Aston Martin.
Used in the filming of the last James Bond movie, this very car was driven by actor Daniel Craig through the streets of Matera, Italy in the opening chase scene.
On its own, this special car raised £2,922,000 ($4.6 million) when it sold to a telephone bidder, with all of the proceeds benefitting the Prince’s Trust, the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund, and three other UK-based charities.
The Prince’s Trust is a charity that supports young people in their search for education, training, and employment while the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund is dedicated to helping former and current members of the UK Intelligence Agency.
In addition to the DB5, two other Aston Martin vehicles were auctioned, one of which being a 1981 Aston Martin V8, also driven by Daniel Craig in No Time to Die and similar to the one featured in The Living Daylights from 1987.
This particular car was donated by EON Productions, producers of the James Bond franchise, and it sold for £630,000 ($1 million). Proceeds from this sale will benefit the UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency.
The other Aston Martin model put up for auction was a DBS Superleggera 007 edition, one of only 25 made to commemorate the car’s apparition in the latest James Bond Movie. This lot raised £403,200 ($640,445) for the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales.
Other lots included in the auction included vehicles, watches, props, and costumes with ties to the latest movie or the six actors that played Bond since the first film premiered in 1962.
