Artist pays brilliant tribute to the Aston Martin Vanquish

In Los Angeles, the line between automotive design and contemporary art blurred for a unique event. At the prestigious Frieze Los Angeles festival, British-American artist Anthony James unveiled a monumental light sculpture inspired by the new Aston Martin Vanquish. Presented in the enchanting setting of the Château Marmont, this immersive work, entitled Reflections of Speed, pays homage to the elegance and power of the famous British sports car.

A work sculpted in light

The sculpture, imposing in its dimensions (5.4 meters long by 2.6 meters high) and its weight (nearly 2,700 kg), took more than a year to complete in the artist's Los Angeles studio. True to his signature style, Anthony James uses modern materials such as glass, mirrors, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to create an illusion of infinity. The play of light and reflection evokes movement and speed, two central elements in the automotive world.

The artist sought to merge sculpture and car, so that the viewer no longer distinguishes one from the other. This project doesn't simply represent the Vanquish: it integrates, transforms, and reinvents it through a striking visual work.

A Source of Mutual Inspiration

Since its presentation in 2024, the Aston Martin Vanquish has often been described as a rolling work of art. With its fluid lines, assertive silhouette, and V12 engine, it embodies refinement and performance. According to Marek Reichman, Head of Design at Aston Martin, the model is the result of a passionate effort where the form aims to captivate as much as to move.

This dialogue between the automobile and art is nothing new for the British brand, which has been developing numerous creative collaborations for several years. James's work is part of this tradition, while marking a significant milestone in its ambition and scope.

An exhibition serving the community

After its opening at Frieze LA, Reflections of Speed ​​will be exhibited at the Petersen Automotive Museum, a must-see for automotive design enthusiasts. The work will then be put up for sale, with proceeds going to support victims of the recent fires in the Los Angeles area. This gesture demonstrates a desire to use art as a vehicle for aid and solidarity.

A Natural Synergy

With Reflections of Speed, Anthony James brilliantly illustrates the complementarity between two worlds often perceived as separate: contemporary art and automotive engineering. By using the Vanquish as his muse, the artist highlights how car design can transcend its utilitarian function to become a true artistic expression.
