The Aston Martin Valkyrie makes its endurance racing debut
Aston Martin enters a new phase in its motorsport history with the first competitive appearance of its Valkyrie in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). This model, based on a road-legal car, made its debut at the opening round of the 2025 season, the 1812 km Qatar Rally at the Lusail International Circuit.
A hypercar like no other
The Valkyrie is the first Hypercar (LMH) developed by Aston Martin. What sets it apart is that it is directly derived from a road-going model. Designed in collaboration with Cosworth, it is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine capable of reaching 11,000 rpm. Although its power output in road-going form exceeds 1,000 hp, it is limited to 680 hp to comply with Hypercar regulations.
A Global Presence
The Valkyrie will not only compete in the WEC. It will also be entered in the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. It thus becomes the only road-based hypercar to compete in these two major competitions. This dual participation demonstrates Aston Martin's ambition to return to the highest level of global endurance racing, with its sights set on a historic victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, its first since 1959.
An Experienced Team
The official program is led by the Aston Martin THOR (The Heart of Racing) team, in collaboration with Aston Martin Performance Technologies. Two cars will be entered throughout the season. The #007 model brings together Harry Tincknell and Tom Gamble, joined by Ross Gunn for the long races. The #009 is driven by Marco Sørensen and Alex Riberas, with Roman De Angelis as backup for certain events.
All the drivers express their enthusiasm and pride in participating in this ambitious project. While they acknowledge that the learning curve will be demanding, they are confident in the group's ability to progress quickly.
Another Battle in LMGT3
Alongside the Valkyrie in Hypercar, Aston Martin continues to aim for the top in the LMGT3 category with its Vantage GT3. The THOR team, already present in the series, is joined this year by Racing Spirit of Léman. Both teams rely on experienced drivers, including several Canadians like Zacharie Robichon, and members of the Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy program.
The launch of the Valkyrie in competition marks an important milestone for Aston Martin. Combining road-going technology with high sporting ambitions, it represents a new generation of endurance cars. The simultaneous involvement in two prestigious championships as well as the presence in LMGT3 shows that the British brand intends to establish itself on all fronts in 2025. The first laps in Qatar are only the beginning of a season that promises to be captivating.
